No-Spend Father's Day Ideas

We did this post for Mother's Day, so it only seems fair to do the same for Father's Day. Now obviously I am not a father, but I am married to one! So I did some research and asked my husband, co-workers, and the internet for some no-spend Father's Day ideas. And without further ado, 5 no-spend Father's Day ideas.

NO HONEY-DO LIST

On Father's Day, don't ask the dad in your life to fix anything, do chores or tasks that could really wait another day. Dad's work hard too and they should be able to relax on Father's Day.

A LAZY MORNING

Let Dad do what he wants in the morning and make it easier for him. For my husband, that looks like breakfast and coffee already prepared and the freedom to eat it wherever he wants. (And not having to change diapers until the afternoon.) You can also make it extra special by spelling, "I Love You" on or with the food. Remember, you know the Dad you want to spoil, and how to make his morning as easy as possible.

JOIN HIM FOR A FAVOURITE ACTIVITY

Does Dad like video games, bike rides, watching the game, playing basketball? Whatever it is, set aside the time and do it with him. My husband says that Father's Day is about doing what he loves with who he loves: his family.

HOMEMADE GIFTS

If you have at least one child older than 2 or 3, you probably have a decent amount of craft supplies in your house (or at least some markers and paper). As a teacher, I've found that kids love making things for the people they love. Instead of spending $5+ per card, or the national average of $133 on Father's Day gifts, let your kids get creative with what you already have. There is usually joy in the making and the giving.

GO TO A LOCAL EVENT

June is a great month for events here in Canada. Most cities and towns have some events being hosted on weekends in June, and many of them are free. Look up the events in your local community and see if any would interest Dad.

This weekend is about love and appreciating the fathers or father figures in our lives. We hope these ideas help you spend some quality time with Dad this Father's Day.
