What Does Certified Organic Mean?
Evergreen WheatGrass Juice is certified organic, non-GMO, & gluten-free. Being certified means we are accountable to outside certifying bodies to guarantee that when we say we are organic, non-GMO, or gluten-free that we meet the industry standards for those claims. Non-GMO & gluten-free are pretty easy certifications to explain, but organic can be a bit trickier because there is more involved. (Don't understand how wheatgrass juice can be gluten-free? Find out more here.)
Being certified organic means that how we grow our wheatgrass and produce our juice has to minimally impact the environment, maintain healthy soil, and preserve ecological integrity. These terms are vague because they have to cover a variety of agricultural practices and processes. More specifically, when we grow our wheatgrass we have to ensure that we do not use synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and GMO seeds. When we produce our juice we cannot use synthetic preservatives, which is another reason why we freeze our juice.
For Evergreen, being certified organic means we are committing to hard work and making sure that we produce a product in such a way that we protect our ecosystem. We plant non-GMO seeds. Instead of pesticides and herbicides, we have hoers. Instead of chemical fertilizers we use a variety of natural fertilizers like compost and mineral supplements depending on what the soil needs. We rotate crops to maintain the health of our soil and ecosystem.
In Canada, it is the law that if you claim to be organic you must be certified organic. Please be wary of products that claim to be organic, but do not show the appropriate certified organic logo. (See below.)
We have been committed to organic farming for decades and will continue to do so because it matters to us and to our customers. Organic farming helps us produce the best wheatgrass juice and take care of the land we grow it on.
