Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies Tested

Sometimes you want a treat but you don't want the treat to be 100% junk food. That's what happened to me a week ago. So I decided to do a quick search and I stumbled upon PaleOMG's recipe for sweet potato chocolate chip cookies. I love sweet potato, and I love cookies, so I was definitely intrigued. And because the cookies looked like regular chocolate chip cookies in the recipe photo, I was sold.

It turns out these cookies are really easy to make, they were tasty and satisfying.

When I starting looking into this recipe I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually had all of the ingredients at home already! However, I will note that unless you are on a paleo diet already, you may not have all of the ingredients at home. The three that I almost did not have were: almond butter, vanilla protein powder, and paleo chocolate chips/cacao nibs. The almond butter can be substituted for another nut butter, you can use chocolate chips, but I do not recommend using a different flavor of protein powder. So this may not be a recipe you can try right away at home.

The cookies were tasty, but the blog post with the recipe noted that the cookies tasted better after being stored in the fridge overnight. So with that in mind I tried a cookie fresh from the oven and a day later from the fridge, and I completely agree. The cookies are tasty either way, but I find that after being in the fridge the slightly odd texture of the sweet potato is much harder to detect. If someone in your family has a thing about food textures, definitely give them a refrigerated cookie.

The best part about these cookies is that they satisfied my sweet tooth and my appetite. I felt full and content with these as my after dinner treat. Unlike regular cookies or my favourite chocolate, I did not find myself coming back for more an hour later. That alone, I think makes trying this recipe worthwhile.

Bon appétit everyone!
